One week to go!
Lighting up sparks of imagination through exposure to knowledge and possibilities is critical for 21st century librarianship. From Kenya, Nigeria, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe, a cross section of AfLIA Leadership Academy Cohort 2 participants will be joining other Librarians at Public Library Association Conference, PLA 2020, Nashville, Tennessee.
The excitement level is high and expectations of learning experiences have gone right through the roof! The group will also visit libraries in Nashville and graduate formally from the Academy at a ceremony during the visit.
Visa challenges kept the other members of Cohort 2 squad from traveling with the group. But guess what? PLA graciously registered them so that they can join the conference virtually. They will be sharing physical and virtual experiences of the conference with the hashtags #PLA2020 and #AfLAc2. Five IYALI participants sponsored by EIFL will also be at PLA 2020 as part of the group of African librarians at the conference.
The first Cohort of AfLIA Leadership Academy had also gone for a study visit in USA. They joined the PLA Academy Cohort 9 for one session and visited libraries in Chicago and Madison in February, 2019. The call for the 3rd Cohort, AfLIA Leadership Academy is out already! The Academy has enlarged its modules and will admit participants from all library types. The admission is ongoing and can be accessed from here – Call for Applications – AfLIA Leadership Academy Cohort 3.
