The AfLIA Library Education and Training Institutions Section (LETIS) is organizing yet another exciting webinar on the topic; “Beyond Library Information Services: Thriving in the AI Age with a Library Science Background”. This important webinar brings together library and information science (LIS) educators to talk about how LIS education can meet the needs of the digital age. It will also explore how educators can promote social justice through their teaching, research, and leadership.
The webinar aims to challenge, inspire, and guide LIS educators to align their work with digital trends and inclusive values. It is a space to share ideas, learn new strategies, and build stronger LIS education systems in Africa.

Dr. Monica Mensah Danquah is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Information Studies, University of Ghana, and Editor-in-Chief of the Ghana Library Journal. She has published widely in peer-reviewed LIS journals indexed in Scopus and contributed to academic books and training materials. Dr. Danquah has presented at numerous local and international conferences, with many presentations leading to publications. She serves as Public Relations Officer and Newsletter Team Member for AfLIA-LETIS, and is Vice Chairperson and Standing Committee Member of IFLA’s Regional Division for Sub-Saharan Africa. Her research interests include scholarly communication, open access, open science, social media use in libraries, research data management, and the role of libraries in supporting the UN Agenda 2030 and Africa’s Agenda 2063.
Francis Ssekitto is a lecturer at the East African School of Library and Information Science, Makerere University. He is also a doctoral researcher with a strong interest in educational technology.
Francis works as an instructional designer and learning management systems (LMS) developer. In addition to his academic and design work, he specializes in creating innovative library spaces for homes, schools, and community compounds.

Upon registration, reminders will be sent to all registrants periodically. This webinar will be hosted on Zoom Conferencing Platform. Participants, who do not have Zoom on their mobile devices and or computers, need to download, install and create an account on Zoom ahead of time (CLICK TO DOWNLOAD). Webinar attendees are encouraged to join early, preferably 15 minutes before the start of the webinar, as one may need time launch the application. The speaker will use a webcam to connect with attendees. Audio and video for the session will be streamed over computer speakers. Attendees are therefore encouraged to connect with a headset or earpiece for maximum utility.
A list of resources and further information will made be available at the end of the webinar, to enable thorough engagement with the webinar content. All registrants will have access to the presentation slides. The webinar recording will be uploaded on AfLIA Youtube Channel soon after the webinar to facilitate continuous engagement with the webinar content by webinar attendees and non-attendees. Please note that this webinar does not involve certificate of participation.
