AfLIA is the trusted voice of the African library and information community in Africa’s development, an international not-for-profit organization which pursues the interests of library and information associations, library and information services, librarians and information workers and the communities they serve in Africa. AfLIA considers it her responsibility to transparently and dutifully chart the course for librarianship in Africa. Therefore, we wish to bring the following to the attention of the Library and Information science in Africa:
1. The attention of African Library and Information Associations and Institutions (AfLIA) has been drawn to an ‘INVITATION TO ATTEND A 5-DAY INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE FOR LIBRARIANS IN ALL TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS IN AFRICA’ by GOODNEWS INTERNATIONAL VENTURES of Mustapha Hassan St. Olorunsogo, Oke-Ibukun Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria.
2. The invitation falsely claims to have been made ‘In Conjunction with African Library and Information Associations and Institutions’.
3. AfLIA does not have any agreement with any organisation to hold trainings on her behalf.
4. GOODNEWS INTERNATIONAL VENTURES of Mustapha Hassan St. Olorunsogo, Oke-Ibukun Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria is FRAUDULENTLY using AfLIA’s name to fleece Librarians through the said invitation.
5. AfLIA charges $500 for her conferences while GOODNEWS INTERNATIONAL VENTURES of Mustapha Hassan St. Olorunsogo, Oke-Ibukun Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria is asking African Librarians to pay $3,500.
6. AfLIA holds her conference biennially and the next one is May 2021, Accra Ghana.
7. GOODNEWS INTERNATIONAL VENTURES of Mustapha Hassan St. Olorunsogo, Oke-Ibukun Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria is a ‘Finance Consultant’ and not a body made up of Librarians.
8. AfLIA disassociates itself totally from the said invitation, workshop and GOODNEWS INTERNATIONAL VENTURES of Mustapha Hassan St. Olorunsogo, Oke-Ibukun Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria.
Caveat Emptor!
