March 2021 Little x Little Donation Campaign

It is always such a pleasure to express our utmost appreciation for your past support for AfLIA! With your help, many significant achievements have been chalked to enhance librarianship and its impact in African communities, and we always look forward to seeing our partnership grow even further.

Your donations over the period has afforded hundreds of African librarians the chance to benefit from state-of-the-art continuous professional development opportunities that help them to think outside the box, properly assess community needs, collaborate with stakeholders and adopt innovative ways to implement lasting solutions for an improved life. 

From March 8-12, 2021, AfLIA’s Little by Little Campaign takes place. During the period, AfLIA will be receiving and celebrating donations, no matter how little, to support our cause. March 8, which marks the beginning of the donation week also coincides with the International Women’s Day (IWD), the focal point in the movement for women’s rights worldwide.      

We see this as an opportunity to highlight the impact of our female librarians, whom after benefiting from AfLIA’s International Network of Emerging Library Innovators –Sub-Saharan Africa (INELI-SSAf) program, have challenged the status quo and brought about positive transformation to their communities. For example, Elizabeth of the Kenya National Library Service, who has trained 1200 women from Elgeyo Marakwet County on alternative business opportunities that will have positive social economic benefits to the women and their communities, as a whole; or Folasade and Jummai, both of National Library of Nigeria, Abuja who have contributed to a cleaner, eco-friendly and healthier environment to benefit thousands inhabitants in Pykasa and other suburbs of Abuja, by embarking on series of information and advocacy campaigns and community fora against plastic waste pollution, harmful waste management practices, including indiscriminate refuse dumping in their communities.      

During the Little by Little Donation Week, please donate to help AfLIA train more goal-driven librarians working innovatively to build safe spaces where men, women, youth and children can realize their potential, steer the trajectory of their dreams, and lift their communities with them. All week, when you donate up to $50, Global Giving will match your generosity by 50%. No amount is too small to donate, hence the name ‘Little by Little’.
