Job Opening – French Facilitator for Wikidata Course

5 JULY 2022

Description

The African Library and Information Associations and Institutions (AfLIA) has been leading African librarians and information professionals to ask questions and explore how to fully open the knowledge stored in information resources in African libraries, archives and museums so that they will be more visible and easier to locate. This is critical as opening up knowledge helps to create more knowledge and pathways for solutions that lead to sustainable development. Through grant support by the Wikimedia Foundation, AfLIA will train librarians and information professionals on promoting open knowledge practices in African Libraries through WikiData.

Are you bilingual (French and English)? Do you understand how Wikidata works? Can you link the local metadata of library, museums and archives collections with a network of global metadata using Wikidata? Can you ably teach information professionals about how to use Wikidata to make their information resources more visible? Do you have the passion to help French-speaking African information professionals learn how to enlarge the presence of African voices in online spaces? Can you train French-speaking information professionals to use Wikidata as a database and a visualization tool for knowledge mapping? Do you have deep hands-on experience with Wikidata editing and Wikimedia communities? Are you a team player? Can you facilitate online training on Moodle platform for large groups? Do you have experience in training, communicating or holding other activities for African libraries?

AfLIA is looking for a course facilitator to work remotely but closely with the Course Manager/Facilitator and the AfLIA team for seven months to create a learning framework (curriculum, modules and learning materials) in French for the AfLIA/Wikidata course, taking into cognisance the digital skills set, Internet facilities/penetration, African meanings, values and learning milieu in the continent. The facilitator will also be responsible for managing and training French participants under the supervision of the Course Manager.
