Fully sponsored skills development opportunity for library users and students

12 JUNE 2020

The African Library and Information Associations and Institutions (AfLIA) is excited to announce, COL-Coursera Workforce Recovery Program, a fully sponsored online learning opportunity for the unemployed (citizens, library users etc.) and students to gain skills towards employment. It is a skills development programme being implemented by AfLIA in partnership with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), Canada and Coursera.

The scholarship program entitles each person to have free and unlimited access to over 3800 courses and 400 specializations. These courses are aligned to employability.  And, upon successful completion of courses, candidates are awarded with shareable certificates. Access to complimentary courses and certification will enhance chances of employment.

Why COL-Coursera Workforce Recovery Programme?

The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting lockdown measures have impacted thousands of learners around Africa, leaving them with little or no option to continue their education. Many others have also lost their jobs and livelihoods and need re-skilling to regain employment.

Recognising the catastrophic effects of the pandemic on millions of people who have become unemployed, or are on the verge of losing their jobs, Coursera, one of the world’s leading eLearning providers, has recently announced the Coursera Workforce Recovery Initiative as an immediate solution to these challenges.
