Emergency preparedness for African Librarians – COVID-19 survey results and the way forward

June 11, 2020

Overview

Libraries all over the continent are feeling the impact of COVID-19 pandemic as services and programmes are reconfigured while resources and efforts are geared towards understanding the facts about the crisis, providing information services on the pandemic and keeping the library spaces free from the virus. Presently, many Libraries across Africa have shut their doors to users while some are operating under certain limitations.

AfLIA released a survey seeking feedback on the general emergency preparedness of libraries in Africa and how different types of libraries are responding to the present public health crisis in order to ably aggregate, document and share the steps being taken by libraries to meet the needs of their communities in these times, communicate the position of African libraries to the world, identify gaps in professional development towards emergency planning and have a general template that African libraries can adapt and adopt as they prepare to reopen their facilities to the public.

The survey results are in! Join us for this free webinar as we share and discuss highlights of the findings of the survey, among others.
