This is AfLIA Election year. AfLIA, therefore, invites all paid-up members to nominate candidates to serve as President, Vice President, a Regional representative from your region/ language group; and Chairperson of your Library-Type Section who will serve on the Governing Council of AfLIA from June 2023 – May 2025.There will also be the election of the Vice Chairperson, Secretary, and Publicity Secretary of Library type Sections as well.
1. The AfLIA Constitution states the following in reference to Elections:
a. Clauses 11.3 and 11.4 “Members who have already served as Vice President for two years before becoming President do not qualify to be nominated for the same position”-(President)
b. Clause 11.7 “Members who have served for a maximum of 4 years in the same position on the Governing Council do not qualify to be nominated for the same position”.
2. ONLY MEMBERS WHO DO NOT HAVE ARREARS OF DUES FOR 2021 AND 2022 ARE ELIGIBLE TO NOMINATE, BE NOMINATED, VOTE OR BE VOTED FOR ANY POSITION.
3. Closing date for receipt of nominations is 15th March 2023.
AfLIA needs committed and hardworking members with the development of the African librarian and African Libraries to serve our communities in Africa at heart, and to put themselves up to serve in these key positions on the Governing Council.We are confident that there are several of our members who are eligible to seek election/re-election into the positions so we look forward to receiving a lot of nominations.
Nomination Forms have been sent to paid members to be completed. Instructions for each position are indicated on the Nomination Form. Kindly send in your nominations as soon as possible so that you will beat the deadline as late submissions will not be accepted.
