AfLIA Strategic Planning Survey (2025–2030)

Deadline for Completion: 4th July 2025

As AfLIA approaches the end of its current Strategic Plan (2020–2025), we are setting a new course for the future. To ensure that the next 5-year Strategic Plan ( 2025– 2030) reflects the real needs, aspirations, and priorities of the African library and information community, we are inviting all members, partners, and stakeholders to share their insights through this important survey. A stronger African Library sector, through AfLIA, can only be built through envisioning clear pathways for increasing relevance and visibility of the library within the continent as an institution whose services;

  • Have clear impact on education at all levels, decision and policy making, transformation of lives and communities,
  • Can lead African nations to fulfill the UN mandates on Open Science, Open Education by accelerating transformations in how science and knowledge in general is recorded, opened and made reusable
  • Can bridge learning deficits and digital gaps between the haves and have-nots
  • Drive the birthing of innovative strategies across all sectors through access to and sharing of knowledge,
  • Build the cultural identity of Africans, community by community through preservation of documentary heritage and impartation of skills for storytelling of African history and present day narratives by Africans
  • Support digital creativity for all

To achieve this, there is need for concerted and collaborative inputs by all the stakeholders in the African library sector towards drawing up the new Strategic Plan. Your input which is most vital would guide the Association towards clear focus areas as pertains to issues that are important to you, strategies that could be employed in building a stronger and ever-widening African library field, and your aspirations as pertains to AfLIA. While this survey may take some time to complete, every question is designed to help AfLIA shape a stronger, more inclusive, and impactful future. We urge you to complete all sections and make your voice count in the future of the continental library movement.

  • Ont un impact clair sur l’éducation à tous les niveaux, la prise de décision, l’élaboration des politiques, et la transformation des vies et des communautés ;
  • Peuvent permettre aux pays africains de répondre aux mandats des Nations Unies sur la Science Ouverte et l’Éducation Ouverte, en accélérant les transformations dans la manière dont la science et le savoir en général sont produits, rendus accessibles et réutilisables ;
  • Peuvent combler les déficits d’apprentissage et les fossés numériques entre les privilégiés et les défavorisés ;
  • Favorisent la naissance de stratégies innovantes dans tous les secteurs grâce à l’accès au savoir et à son partage ;
  • Contribuent à construire l’identité culturelle des Africains, communauté par communauté, à travers la préservation du patrimoine documentaire et le développement des compétences pour raconter l’histoire et les récits contemporains africains, par les Africains eux-mêmes ;

  • Têm impacto claro na educação em todos os níveis, na tomada de decisões, na formulação de políticas públicas, e na transformação de vidas e comunidades;
  • Podem ajudar os países africanos a cumprir os mandatos das Nações Unidas sobre Ciência Aberta e Educação Aberta, acelerando transformações na forma como a ciência e o conhecimento são registrados, abertos e reutilizados;
  • Podem reduzir os déficits de aprendizagem e as desigualdades digitais entre os que têm e os que não têm acesso;
  • Impulsionam o surgimento de estratégias inovadoras em todos os setores por meio do acesso e compartilhamento do conhecimento;
  • Constroem a identidade cultural dos africanos, comunidade por comunidade, através da preservação do patrimônio documental e da transmissão de habilidades para contar a história e as narrativas africanas contemporâneas, por africanos;
