AfLIA/SPARC Africa Workshop on Library Publishing: Request for Applications

13 APRIL 2023

AfLIA and her partners, in collaboration with SPARC Africa, is organizing a 2-day post-conference workshop on Library Publishing as an important strand of Open Access. The underlying principle is to develop a cohort of African librarians who would serve as a community of trainers and who will be able to propagate open practices through Library publishing in their respective regions.

The workshop has the following objectives:

  1. To expand publishing forums for African librarians and researchers to disseminate their articles/books
  2. Develop the capacity of African librarians and researchers on the use of a continental open access publishing platform available for any African institution of higher education to use to publish books (including textbooks) and journals
  3. To increase the use of the platform for the publication of books and journals
  4. To train African librarians in a practical way towards extending open access practices through library publishing

The workshop will take place on 27-28 May 2023, immediately after the close of the 5th AfLIA Conference and 7th African Library Summit.

Successful applicants will receive full sponsorship covering air and local travel, visa processing, feeding, and accommodation for the period of the workshop. The sponsorship also covers conference registration fees of successful applicants. Workshop participants are expected to arrive in Accra, Ghana, on 22nd May 2023, participate in the 5th AfLIA 2023 Conference and 7th African Library Summit and stay on for the post-conference workshop on 27th – 28th May, 20-23. Departure will be on Monday, 29th May 2023.

Interested participants should kindly complete the workshop application form below on or before Sunday, 23rd April 2023.
