In light of on-going developments with COVID-19 crisis, especially the second wave of the pandemic, and after thoughtful considerations by Governing Council of AfLIA to ensure the safety and well-being of our prospective participants and exhibitors, partners, and employees, the 4th AfLIA Conference and 6th African Library Summit will transition to a fully online, virtual experience. We are excited that a virtual event makes it possible to broaden the learning opportunities and engagement with the world of library and information science, at this time.
Our conferences, the biggest forum for LIS professionals and practitioners in Africa, has been characterized by thought-provoking keynote addresses, insightful paper and poster presentations, cutting-edge discussion in LIS, invaluable networking and collaborations and extensive exhibition sessions. This year’s virtual conference scheduled to hold in May 2021, is designed to replicate all these experiences in a full online environment.
The conference will be hosted from AfLIA’s Secretariat in Accra, Ghana over a period of four days. Daily sessions will be held for 5 hours each day to ensure that content is delivered in more digestible segments. Selected scholarly papers and posters will be presented. Each day will be headlined with a motivational talk by high profile guests. In addition, there will be Workshop sessions on Openness Movement, Digitalizing the curriculum: Towards an educational programme for digital Information science, Institutional Repositories and how these concepts are interwoven with integration of 4IR in Africa. The conference will also include interviews that will explore the critical concepts in 21st century librarianship, networking opportunities, and a Live Virtual Tour of the new AfLIA Secretariat; the pride of all library workers and library educators in Africa.
Networking has always been at the heart of our biennial conferences and this time, attendees will be able to partake in interactive and engaging experiences through a dynamic virtual conference platform, from the comfort and safety of their homes or offices.
