AfLIA congratulates Mr. Kepi Madumo on his appointment as National Librarian and CEO of the NLSA

The Executive Director, AfLIA, Dr. Helena Asamoah-Hassan, on behalf of the Governing Council and the entire membership of AfLIA has congratulated Mr. Kepi Madumo on his recent appointment as the National Librarian and CEO of National Library of South Africa. Mr. Kepi Madumo is a thorough bred Librarian with requisite qualifications and vast experience in the profession. He has served as the Executive Director in the Department of Community Development, City of Johannesburg; Strategic Executive Director in the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts, Culture and Libraries, City of Tshwane; Director of Information Management in the National Department of Social Development; and Divisional Head of Strategy, Research and Organisation Performance at the City of Ekurhuleni.

Mr. Kepi Madumo has a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Studies from the University of Cape Town, Honours Degree in Information Studies from the Rand Afrikaans University (presently the University of Johannesburg) and a four-year Bachelor’s Degree in Library and Information Science from the University of the North (currently the University of Limpopo). He also went through the Executive Leadership Programme at the Gordon Institute of Business Science, University of Pretoria; Management Advancement Programme (MAP) at Wits Business School and Municipal Finance Management Programme (MFMP) at the University of Pretoria.

AfLIA is especially proud of him as a Coach of the AfLIA Leadership Academy (AfLAc) Cohort 2, where he has showed great leadership examples and inspired his group and all other participants on how to lead effectively from the front and from behind.

According to the Executive Director, with the appointment of Mr. Kepi Madumo as the National Librarian, ‘NLSA has re-asserted itself as a foremost National Library in Africa and a beacon of librarianship in the entire continent. Therefore, AfLIA strongly believes that with him at the helm of affairs, NLSA will continue to play significant roles especially in tactically positioning Libraries for full integration into plans and activities for the 4th Industrial Revolution in South Africa and generally in Africa’.

Furthermore, she pointed out that ‘Africa is the future. African libraries have the capacity to play defining roles in sustainable development and in creating the Africa We Want’.

AfLIA wishes the new National Librarian and CEO, NLSA success as he takes up this momentous post on 1st December, 2019 and will continue to count on NLSA as a strategic partner in uplifting the Africa Library sector.
