THE CONSTITUTION OF THE AFRICAN LIBRARY AND INFORMATION ASSOCIATIONS AND INSTITUTIONS (AfLIA)

This Constitution serves as the foundational legal instrument governing the African Library and Information Associations and Institutions (AfLIA). It provides a comprehensive framework for the operation, governance, and mission of the Association in advancing library and information services across Africa.

The Constitution is structured into eighteen (18) Articles, encompassing key areas essential to the functioning and sustainability of AfLIA. These include the official Name, Interpretation of Terms, and the framework for Bye-laws; the Vision, Mission, and Objectives of the Association; provisions for Membership, the composition and responsibilities of the Governing Council and Officers; protocols for Meetings, Voting, and Elections; and the structure of Committees and Sections.

Further Articles address Finance and Resource Management, Affiliations with other regional and global bodies, and internal mechanisms for Discipline, Amendments to the Constitution, and Dissolution of the Association. The Constitution also provides guidance for the adoption and review of Bye-laws to support its implementation.
