MARCH 3, 2024
The UN had designated March 8th to be celebrated annually as the International Women’s Day (IWD). Globally, the day is used to focus on issues that affect women and their roles in society;
– gender and reproductive rights,
– violence and abuse against women and the
– ‘invisible barriers’ that assail women as they journey through family life, career progression and social engagements.
Also, the Day offers opportunities for celebrating the successes of females irrespective of all prevailing challenges.
The African Library and Information Associations and Institutions (AfLIA) would use that day to celebrate the impact and successes of two distinguished female Librarians in Africa as well as explore how they were able to overcome the visible and invisible barriers for womenfolk in Africa and how to better inspire inclusion for younger women who wish to attain their heights career-wise.
