The African Library and Information Associations and Institutions (AfLIA) wishes to inform librarians in Africa and the Diaspora that personal / individual membership category will be available from January 2022. The AfLIA Governing Council and members present at the Virtual Annual General Meeting held on 27th May 2021 approved the request from the AfLIA Secretariat to have individual membership category activated.
AfLIA has over the past 8 years strictly accepted Institutional Membership to enable National Library Associations to grow in-country. At the same time, we have been inundated with requests for personal / individual membership and so this approval brings satisfaction to the numerous enquirers. The Governing Council believes that personal / individual membership will benefit persons who desire to have personal relationship with AfLIA and those who are not affiliated to any institution but wish to contribute to the Library and Information profession in Africa.
AfLIA still stands by its Mission to empower the library and information community in Africa and to strengthen National Library Associations. To this end, AfLIA WILL NOT ACCEPT applications from individuals who are not members in GOOD STANDING with their National Library Associations.
We are by this announcement inviting interested persons to download the forms and apply. Individual Membership fee for now will be Fifty US Dollars ($50) per annum. Other details and rights for Personal / Individual membership will be worked out and circulated before 1st January 2022.
